Baltimore Season Opener Is Just That
This Monday, the Yankees opened up their season in Baltimore. It looked like an easy day. Ace, C.C. Sabathia was on the mound for the men in blue and white. Jeter had a nice long at-bat in the top of the first to start the game off. They were up by 1 by the top of the 3rd and everything seemed to be flowing smoothly.
Then came the bats of the Birds. The Orioles got three earned runs in the bottom of the third and three in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the top of the sixth, the yankees tried to climb back. They got 2 in the sixth as well as 2 in the seventh to trail by 1 going into the bottom of the eighth.
For the most part, after C.C. left in the 5th inning, the Yankees bullpen had done their job of not allowing runs. That all changed when Cesar Izturis went yard in the bottom half of the eighth off of Phil Coke. The Orioles racked up 4 runs in the inning to lead 10-5.
The Pinstripers had no gas left as they went 1-2, walk by Cano, -4 in the top portion of the ninth inning. It was definately not what the team was looking for to start their season off on the right foot. They looked on as the Orioles players high-fived and congratulated each other.
Wednesday could bring a different story, though.
Until then,
Peace!
Offseason Deals Spur Much Fan Intrest
I was going to start blogging again when spring training started, BUT there are a couple of offseason things I feel the need to discuss…
One: Yankees sign CC Sabathia
I think it’s pretty awesome, to be honest. I just hope it works out better than some other pitcher deals (ex: Carl Pavano). Seven-years, $161 million.
Two: Yankees sign A.J Burnett
Another fine deal. Again, I hope it works out for the better. And I think I speak for all Yankees fans when I say this. Five-years, $82.5 million.
Three: Yankees sign Mark Teixeira
This one, I was a bit surprised with because it looked like we had pulled out of the “bidding” and offering. And it happens to be an 8-year approx. $180 million dollar signing.
All I have to say is wow. Leave it to the Yanks to spend a whole lot of money. Probably one of the reasons many people don’t like the way the Steinbrenners work. Mo’ money, mo’ money, mo’ money.
Who knows?! Maybe there will be some more exciting deals coming our way as the winter meetings are well underway.
Until then,
Later!
